Tartan. Argyle. Houndstooth; these are a few of the many patterns worn on regular basis by people all across the globe for years and years to come. None of which belong to Indonesia, a country well known for it’s abundance of culture. It is true that the world has known batik for it’s various colours and diverse shapes, however we believe that Indonesia has a lot more to offer.

One of which is ‘lurik’. Lurik is a traditional pattern from the central region of Java, which strongly symbolises simplicity through it’s appearance yet embodies a much deeper meaning of hardwork, and handwork.

Here at ALTER, we are trying to bring Lurik — the unrepresented pattern — into the spotlight. We are proving that SIMPLE THINGS CAN RESULT IN BIG CHANGES. We are here to represent Lurik (and all of the people who are a lot like it); the unrepresented, the underdogs, the dark horse, to elevate their look through the simplicity of Lurik.

We are here to start a movement, a transformation. It was known by a few, now is the time for it to be loved by many.
